DESCRIPTION:Heart Weeks 2025: St. Antonius Hospital experts provide information about heart disease \nAs part of the nationwide Heart Weeks 2025\, the Cardiology Clinic at St. Antonius Hospital Gronau is hosting a public lecture evening. Under the\nmotto “Healthy vessels\, healthy heart”\, interested parties will learn how coronary heart disease and heart attacks can be detected\, prevented and treated at an early stage on November 19 from 6:30 p.m. in the Gronau nursing school at St. Antonius Hospital.  \n“If you know and pay attention to certain risk factors\, you can significantly reduce your risk of a heart attack or stroke\,” explains Dr. Alexander Samol\, Head Physician at the Cardiology Clinic at St. Antonius-Hospital Gronau. Together with his senior physicians Sherif Omar\, Wael El Eit and Mohamed Elbaroudy\, he provides information on the causes\, diagnosis and treatment options for cardiovascular diseases – still the most common cause of death in Germany.  \nThe lectures will begin by looking at the definition\, causes and diagnosis of coronary heart disease. This will be followed by prevention and drug treatment\, before interventional and surgical treatment options\, particularly for acute coronary syndrome\, are presented. DESCRIPTION:As part of the events for the Week of Remembrance\, the Euregio Adult Education Center invites you to the German-Dutch Encounter Café on Tuesday\, 11.11.2025\, at 18:30 in the Gronau City Library\, Parkstraße 1. \nOur guest is Bert Woudstra\, Holocaust survivor and one of the last living witnesses. The 93-year-old only survived the war because more than a dozen families took him and his mother in and hid them. His brother and nephew fled the Netherlands as young Jewish men during the occupation and went to Great Britain via France to join the Allies.   \nOn this evening\, Bert Woudstra tells part of his family history. He reads from  \nthe book \,\,Een familiekroniek over verzet tegen het fascisme 1942 – 1945″ (“A family chronicle about the resistance against fascism”)\, to which he contributed as a \ncontributed as co-author. \nBert Woudstra\, born in Enschede in 1932 to Jewish parents\, is a contemporary witness to the \nGerman occupation in the Netherlands during the Nazi era. He saw his father in 1941 for the  \nfor the last time. He was deported and murdered.  \nThere will be an opportunity to ask questions after the presentation. DESCRIPTION:Of threads and visions: Gronau textile buildings then and now \n\nDigital presentation incl. guided tour of the White Lady \n\nAfter a successful first event\, the second city tour focusing on the history of the textile industry in Gronau will take place in October. Together with the Euregio-Volkshochschule Gronau\, Stadtmarketing Gronau is offering the guided tour entitled “Of threads and visions: Gronau textile buildings then and now”\, but this time in digital form. Gronau insider Klaus Wiedau will take all interested parties on a digital tour of the city on October 24\, 2025 at 4 p.m. along prominent sites of the former textile industry in Gronau. Using many pictures\, for example of the cinema\, the rock’n’pop museum and the White Lady\, Gronau’s past textile history will be illustrated. These buildings\, along with many others\, were important parts of Gronau’s flourishing textile industry.     \nFollowing the presentation\, participants can look forward to an interesting guided tour of the restored White Lady. There\, participants will learn more about the innovative concept of “Lively” and its new function as a co-living space\, as well as the exciting transformation of this historic building. “We are delighted that the first event was so well received and that we can offer this special event again in cooperation with VHS Gronau\,” emphasizes Anne Holters from the Gronau City Marketing team. DESCRIPTION:The Euregio Adult Education Center invites you to a lecture on Thursday\, October 9\, at 7 pm in the public library. The occasion is the 70th anniversary of the German-Italian Recruitment Agreement\, which celebrates its 70th anniversary on December 20 this year.   \n\n\nWhen Federal Labor Minister Anton Storch (CDU) from Adenauer’s cabinet signed the agreement in 1955\, the then Federal Republic of Germany sealed its first bilateral treaty of this kind. Following its example\, further agreements followed with other countries such as Spain\, Greece\, Portugal and Turkey. \nThe German-Italian Treaty made it possible for German companies to legally employ workers from Italy. As a result\, people from this country came to Germany to work in numerous sectors.  \nSince the 1950s\, a total of almost four million Italian citizens have immigrated to Germany. Not all of them stayed permanently.  \nWhat motivated people to come to Germany over the decades? \nHow did and do the immigrants live here? \nHow did they integrate? \nWhat is the relationship to the country of origin\, the native language and culture? \nWhy do people go back\, why do others stay in Germany? \nThe lecture will examine these questions and shed light on the background to the recruitment agreement signed 70 years ago. \nThere will be an opportunity for questions and discussion after the presentation. \nThe speaker is Dr. Alessandro Bellardita\, Chairman of the German-Italian Society Karlsruhe and himself the son of a Sicilian family who came to Germany in the early 1980s. DESCRIPTION:The Hündfelder Moor and the adjacent Dutch Aamsveen are part of a cross-border nature conservation project that aims to permanently rewet the moor landscape. These measures are intended to strengthen biodiversity\, reduce CO₂ emissions and make the landscape more resilient to the consequences of climate change.  \nChristoph Rückriem\, from the Zwillbrock Biological Station\, will present the planned measures\, challenges and progress of the project to date in his lecture on 25.09.2025. He will also explain the importance of this work for Gronau. The event is aimed at all interested parties and offers the opportunity to get to know a special natural area right on your doorstep.   \nParticipation in the event is free of charge. SUMMARY:St. Antonius-Hospital Gronau sets an example for patient safety
DESCRIPTION:To mark World Patient Safety Day on September 17\, St. Antonius-Hospital Gronau is sending out a clear signal for more safety in everyday care. The entrance area of the hospital is illuminated in orange\, making the importance of the topic visible to all visitors. Information material is also available. Trainees from the hospital’s nursing school had developed a so-called “room of error” in advance – a scenario in which typical errors at the patient’s bedside are made visible. In this practical training room\, the participants had to recognize\, among other things\, if the patient was lying too low in bed\, if there were air bubbles in the infusion\, if the bed was not secured or if disinfectant was missing. A total of 17 potential sources of error were hidden in the scenario\, which must be avoided in day-to-day care.      \nOn September 20\, visitors can experience the “Room of Error” live at the Gronau town festival in the pedestrian zone and go in search of errors themselves. St. Antonius-Hospital will have a stand there to provide information about typical sources of error\, patient safety and the importance of careful care.   The campaign was initiated by quality management and the nursing school at St. Antonius Hospital. “Patient safety is a top priority for us – especially in the training of our nursing staff\,” says Head of School Sevgi Filiz. “With this campaign\, we want to show how important it is to recognize potential risks and avoid mistakes in everyday nursing care.”   \nWorld Patient Safety Day takes place annually on September 17 and was launched by the WHO in 2019 to draw global attention to the importance of patient safety and promote joint action. \nPhoto: The Room of Error in a training room at St. Antonius Hospital in Gronau Visitors to the city festival can go in search of errors themselves.
