They are pined over and fetishized in song lyrics\, insulted and degraded\, they serve as a projection surface on stage and backstage.\nFemale fans are regarded as a screaming mass or will-less groupies\, incapable of any serious interest in the music or serious taste. And when a woman performs as an artist\, she is first a woman and only then a musician\, then her body is either too fat\, too thin\, too perfect or otherwise wrong\, then she is either a whore or a saint\, and then – suddenly – she is too old anyway.   \nIn a mixture of analysis and reckoning that is as angry as it is instructive\, Sonja Eismann shows how deeply sexism and ageism are inscribed in the music industry\, how we as consumers have learned and internalized the male gaze\, how abuse and paedosexuality are accepted in almost all scenes and genres. SUMMARY:Literature meeting on Monday: Siegfried Lenz
DESCRIPTION:Siegfried Lenz was one of the best-known German writers of the post-war period and a contemporary of Heinrich Böll\, Günter Grass and Uwe Johnson. With his most famous novel “Deutschstunde” (1968)\, he created a classic of German narrative art. With other works such as “So zärtlich war Suleyken” (1955) and “Arnes Nachlaß” (1999)\, Lenz sold millions of copies. He was born on March 17\, 1926 in Lyck in East Prussia (now Poland) and died at the age of 88 on October 7\, 2014 in Hamburg. He would have celebrated his 100th birthday this year.

DESCRIPTION:Night insights 2026 Gronau and Epe shine in a cultural light\n\nCultural events at twelve venues meet impressive light installations and color stagings: these are the cornerstones of “Nachteinblicke”\, which will be held for the sixth time on March 7 by Kulturbüro Gronau GmbH. The event is presented by Stadtwerke Gronau. As in previous editions\, thousands of visitors will once again experience an atmospheric spectacle of color and culture in 2026\, involving a large number of local and regional artists. And the best thing about it: admission is free!   \n\nMany visitors are always impressed by the special atmosphere created by the interplay of light\, space\, music and culture. At twelve different locations in Gronau and Epe\, local artists and choirs in particular present an exciting mix of their work. From male choirs and magicians to improvisational theater – the range of artists involved in the Night Insights is wide\, with a total of 36 artists and artist groups taking part.  \n\nInselpark Seemingly familiar things appear in a completely new light in the dark of night when the spectacular light and color productions create an atmospheric and sometimes even mystical atmosphere. A very special highlight is the Stadtwerke Silent Disco at the Waldbühne\, where visitors can dance to music transmitted via wireless headphones. Instead of loud speakers\, there is a shared but individual listening experience. Headphones can be borrowed for a fee of €2.50\, and for Stadtwerke customers\, borrowing is free as part of the Vorteilswelt (formerly PlusService Card).  \n\nFor the younger visitors\, there will be hands-on activities such as a children’s rally and craft activities\, and the Stadtwerke outdoor area in the Inselpark invites you to linger with chilled DJ music and a range of food and drink.\n\nDiscover “Gronau and Epe” in the light\nDuring the Night Insights\, city guides will also be out and about in both districts\, showing the city in a special light and from a different perspective. In this way\, participants can discover and experience the town with new eyes. The tours start at 20:00 and participation is based on the “pay what you want” principle.\nThe “Kulturhäppchen” are available at these locations:  \n\nGronau: Musikclub Turbine\, Café Backstage\, Evang. DESCRIPTION:Haus Lebenstein invites you to a special evening at Georg’s Gallery in Epe on Monday\, January 12\, 2026\, at 6.30 pm: The singer and contemporary witness of the second generation\, Ruth Frenk\, will present her memoirs “Bei uns war alles ganz normal” – an impressive combination of personal history\, music and remembrance work. \nRuth Frenk was born in the Netherlands as the daughter of Schoáh survivors. After studying singing in New York\, she came to Germany in 1974 and settled in Constance. There she began a successful artistic career with Jewish songs and developed into an important voice for Jewish cultural mediation in Germany.   \nIn her book\, published in 2022\, Ruth Frenk tells of her family history\, her artistic journey and her decades-long commitment to remembrance\, dialog and education. The title makes it clear how much Jewish life felt natural and “normal” before the persecution – and how radically this normality was destroyed.  \nToday\, Ruth Frenk regularly reads at schools\, appears in public discussions and works tirelessly for intergenerational dialog and against anti-Semitism and exclusion. \nAdmission is free of charge. \nAn evening full of music\, history and impressive personal insights.

DESCRIPTION:Thomas Mann would have been 150 years old on June 6\, 2025. \nThe winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature (1929)\, writer and cosmopolitan lived a truly multifaceted life\, from his beginnings as a political conservative to his clear position as a convinced democrat. Initially carried away by the prevailing enthusiasm for the war in the summer of 1914\, later shaken by the collapse of the German Empire\, he finally made a profound political about-turn.  \nAfter the assassination of the German Foreign Minister Walther Rathenau\, he revised his previous stance and became a convinced democrat\, which he remained until the end of his life. \nHis speech “My Time”\, which he gave in Chicago in 1950\, was an important and impressive testimony\, as it manifested his aversion to all forms of totalitarianism. \nSince then\, Thomas Mann has decisively rejected any dogmatic dictatorship. \nTo mark the 150th anniversary of his birth\, the life of one of the most influential German writers of the 20th century will be examined in more detail.

DESCRIPTION:After taking a wrong turn in the sewer\, Rieke the rat finds herself in the toilet of the public library. Before she even knows where she is\, she is captured. As reading is not one of her favorite pastimes\, she doesn’t really feel at home in the library.   \nThis is where anyone who wants to help Rieke solve some reading puzzles comes in. \nUsing the Biparcours app\, the children move through various locations in the library and help Rieke to track down her kidnapper and help her to freedom. This is a fun way to learn how the library works and how to find your way around.  \nTablets are made available to the participants. \nThe Biparcours app is a digital learning tool from Bildungspartner NRW. \nThe application can be used by schools and extracurricular places of learning such as libraries\, but also by partners in North Rhine-Westphalia. \nFurther dates can be arranged for school classes by prior arrangement.

DESCRIPTION:Literature Club on Monday – 40th anniversary of Heinrich Böll’s death – A critical spirit for peace and human rights 01.09.25 \nHeinrich Theodor Böll (December 1917 to July 1985)\, was a controversial\, sometimes uncomfortable intellectual spirit who critically accompanied the years of reconstruction of the young Federal Republic of Germany. \nHe repeatedly took a stand on the issues of the time\, both in his writing and in his journalism. \nWhether fighting terrorism at the time of the RAF\, student protests of the APO or the peace movement: \nHeinrich Böll was present\, loud and opinionated. \nHis speech in Bonn’s Hofgarten in October 1981 in front of tens of thousands of demonstrators against NATO rearmament is just as unforgettable as his participation in a sit-in blockade in front of a US missile base in Mutlangen in 1983. \nAwarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1972\, Böll became the voice of German left-wing intellectuals. \nWell-known works such as Gruppenbild mit Dame (1971) and Die verlorene Ehre der Katharina Blum (1974) were school canon and were made into films by director Rainer Maria Fassbinder. \nThe 40th anniversary of Böll’s death should be an occasion to look at the life of this controversial writer from today’s perspective.
