Five brave writers compete against one another with texts they\u2019ve written entirely on their own, using their whole bodies in their performances. Whether it\u2019s a short story or a poem, read from a script or performed from memory, shouted or whispered\u2014anything that comes from the writer\u2019s own pen and fits within a tight six-minute time slot may be presented. As varied as the performances are, they all have one thing in common: the participants\u2019 verbal acrobatics are impressive and make the audience laugh, reflect, or even move them to tears. The audience is actively involved; through scoring and the intensity of their applause, they decide who advances to the next round and ultimately emerges as the winner of the poetry contest.
