How can we protect our endangered meadow birds? That’s what Wednesday’s nature field trip to the Amtsvennwiesen is all about.😊
This is because the Amtsvennwiesen are one of the last important breeding grounds for endangered meadow bird species such as the black-tailed godwit and the curlew. In this remarkable complex of protected areas—comprising wet meadows and marshes—landscape ecologists Nikolai Eversmann and Daniela Reich, together with the hunting leaseholders, explain the conservation measures that have been implemented as part of the EU project “LIFE Meadow Birds NRW.” After all, nature conservation here simply wouldn’t work without cooperation with farmers and hunters!
Anyone interested in meadow bird conservation, hunting, or the work of the Zwillbrock Biological Station e.V. is cordially invited. We especially welcome farmers and hunters who aren’t yet familiar with us. We look forward to taking an evening walk together and answering lots of curious questions.
The cost is €15 per person.
The meeting point is at the peat plant in Ahaus-Alstätte (Schwiepinghook 61, on the B70).
