125 Years of Medicine: St. Antonius Hospital in Gronau Invites You to Its Open House
Hands-on medicine and a varied program for the whole family: That’s what St. Antonius Hospital in Gronau has to offer at its Open House on Sunday, September 6. Between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., visitors can explore the hospital and its facilities, get a medical checkup, attend expert presentations, try out modern medical technology, and talk with the people who are there for patients every day.
Under the anniversary theme “human. competent. close.”, St. Antonius Hospital is opening up numerous areas that visitors don’t normally get to see. One of the highlights is the operating room area. There, the various specialized clinics will demonstrate modern surgical procedures—ranging from laparoscopy to arthroscopy and osteosynthesis to robot-assisted surgery. Using a da Vinci system, interested visitors can try their hand at controlling a surgical robot. The Anesthesiology Department is offering, among other things, a resuscitation workshop and providing a hands-on experience of critical care medicine.
In the endoscopy section, treatment methods can be simulated using a model of the intestine. The cardiology section features ECGs, equipment from the cardiac catheterization lab, and pacemakers, while the acute and emergency medicine section demonstrates how broken bones are treated. The lab demonstrates blood collection and analysis, while the hospital hygiene department uses a “black box” to show just how thoroughly hands have actually been disinfected. In the radiology department, visitors can admire levitating scissors and learn about modern diagnostic methods.
In the delivery room, there are guided tours and information about obstetrics, as well as activities for children. The Nursing Administration and Nursing School present the work in nursing and training opportunities. The palliative care unit, senior care facilities, the Josef-Haus day hospice, pastoral care and psycho-oncology, the home health care service, physical therapy, and other departments will also present their services. Anyone interested in a career with #TeamAnton can find out more about jobs, training, and entry-level opportunities directly.
An extensive lecture program is specifically designed for the general public. Topics include thyroid disorders, endometriosis, colorectal cancer screening, and modern foot surgery. The chief physicians in urology will provide information about the department’s range of services, and sports cardiologist Dr. Waldemar Bensch will explain which sports are beneficial for people with heart disease.
It’s a hive of activity on the Radio WMW stage: the AGAtissimo choir is performing, the Münsterland-based Dinkelfunken are making a guest appearance, a clown is providing entertainment, and kids can try their hand at running a radio show. In addition, there are short interviews with doctors, facility directors, and nursing staff. The DLRG, DRK, and emergency medical services are also on site.
There will be plenty of food and drinks available: Café Vita is open and offers not only coffee and cake but also grilled foods and a beverage stand. There will also be an ice cream truck on site.
The open house begins at 11 a.m. with an open-air church service on the Radio WMW stage featuring Pastor Michael Vehlken and the AGAtissimo choir. At 12 p.m., the Open House will be officially opened by the mayor of Gronau and the management of St. Antonius Hospital.
The event spans nearly the entire hospital grounds. An event schedule helps visitors find their way around. It is available online on the hospital’s anniversary website.
