Christmas Oratorio 2026

“Rejoice and be glad, arise and praise these days”—the opening chorale of one of Johann Sebastian Bach’s most famous works begins with this festive call: The Christmas Oratorio, first performed in Leipzig between Christmas Day 1734 and Epiphany 1735, has captivated thousands of concertgoers year after year ever since, inviting them to pause and reflect for an evening.

The story of the birth of Jesus is told—impressively set to magnificent chorales that engage in a colorful interplay with solo performances by the singers and the symphony orchestra. This year, the choirs of the Gronau and Rheine Music Associations and the Rheine Symphony Orchestra will present Parts I, II, and IV.

Ralf Junghöfer serves as the musical director. With Inga Balzer-Wolf (soprano), Judith Gennrich (alto), Stefan Sbonnik (tenor), and Antonio Di Martino (bass-baritone), the associations were able to secure a wonderful and experienced quartet of soloists.

Tickets for this impressive concert experience are available at the tourist office, the bookstore on the market square, City-Wolbers, the municipal office, and from choir members, as well as online through Eventim.

Advance ticket sales begin in late October!

We look forward to your visit!
