Dutch-German meeting café at the Euregio-VHS
As part of the events for the Week of Remembrance, the Euregio Adult Education Center invites you to the German-Dutch Encounter Café on Tuesday, 11.11.2025, at 18:30 in the Gronau City Library, Parkstraße 1.
Our guest is Bert Woudstra, Holocaust survivor and one of the last living witnesses. The 93-year-old only survived the war because more than a dozen families took him and his mother in and hid them. His brother and nephew fled the Netherlands as young Jewish men during the occupation and went to Great Britain via France to join the Allies.
On this evening, Bert Woudstra tells part of his family history. He reads from
the book ,,Een familiekroniek over verzet tegen het fascisme 1942 – 1945″ (“A family chronicle about the resistance against fascism”), to which he contributed as a
contributed as co-author.
Bert Woudstra, born in Enschede in 1932 to Jewish parents, is a contemporary witness to the
German occupation in the Netherlands during the Nazi era. He saw his father in 1941 for the
for the last time. He was deported and murdered.
There will be an opportunity to ask questions after the presentation. There will be ample opportunity for an exchange of ideas and discussion.
Dipl.-Ing. Secil Arda-Schiffel will be the moderator.
Admission at the box office is 5.00 euros, drinks included. Pupils and students have free admission.
