The Flamingo Route runs for around 450 km through the entire Borken district and through the border area of the Netherlands. There are many nature reserves along the route, such as the Zwillbrocker Venn, where the northernmost flamingo colony spends the summer and breeds its young every year.

Cyclists also pass, for example, the Rüenberger Venn, the Amtsvenn and the Hündfelder Moor in Gronau.

The route can be ridden either as a multi-day tour or sections of it as one-day tours.
