Tackling nature conservation: On Saturday, September 27, 2025, the Biolog…

Hands-on nature conservation: On Saturday, September 27, 2025, the Zwillbrock Biological Station, together with EnHOE, NABU Bocholt and the NLW Foundation’s ESD Regional Center, invites you to a special day of action. 😊

Under the slogan “Active for nature conservation – weed removal in protected areas”, all interested parties have the opportunity to make a direct and very practical contribution to the preservation of valuable habitats. Young trees and shrubs that overgrow open biotopes such as moors, heathland or species-rich meadows are removed. Without this regular maintenance, these sensitive areas are at risk of becoming overgrown – with serious consequences for the rare animal and plant species that live there. This is why scrub clearance is an indispensable contribution to the preservation of biodiversity.

The action is part of the cross-border project LIFE CrossBorderBog, which is currently being implemented in Aamsveen (NL) and Hündfelder Moor (D). The aim is to restore a natural water balance in these raised bog areas. The de-watering campaign on September 27 is an important part of this project – and a concrete step towards protecting these unique habitats.

Everyone can take part!
The meeting point is at 10:00 a.m. at the sheepfold of the Moorhof sheep farm. From there, we will carpool to the work site. After the work, all helpers will be given a lunch snack back at the barn – as a small thank you for their great commitment.

You should bring: Work gloves, rubber boots, weatherproof clothing and whoever has loppers or small saws (additional tools will be provided)

The event is open to everyone – whether individuals, families, school classes or groups: Every helping hand is welcome!
