This year, the Gronau public library is celebrating a special anniversary of world literature: Thomas Mann, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1929, was born in 1875 and is one of the most influential writers of the 20th century.
His life was multifaceted: from his politically conservative beginnings to the upheavals of the First World War and his clear position as a staunch democrat. Particularly impressive is his speech “My Time” from 1950, in which Thomas Mann spoke out resolutely against totalitarianism and any form of dictatorial dogma.
To mark the 150th anniversary of his birth, the Gronau public library will be highlighting the life and work of this important writer and reading selected excerpts at the Literature Club on October 6.
