A musical evening with Ruth Frenk “Everything was completely normal with us”

Haus Lebenstein invites you to a special evening at Georg’s Gallery in Epe on Monday, January 12, 2026, at 6.30 pm: The singer and contemporary witness of the second generation, Ruth Frenk, will present her memoirs “Bei uns war alles ganz normal” – an impressive combination of personal history, music and remembrance work.

Ruth Frenk was born in the Netherlands as the daughter of Schoáh survivors. After studying singing in New York, she came to Germany in 1974 and settled in Constance. There she began a successful artistic career with Jewish songs and developed into an important voice for Jewish cultural mediation in Germany.

In her book, published in 2022, Ruth Frenk tells of her family history, her artistic journey and her decades-long commitment to remembrance, dialog and education. The title makes it clear how much Jewish life felt natural and “normal” before the persecution – and how radically this normality was destroyed.

Today, Ruth Frenk regularly reads at schools, appears in public discussions and works tirelessly for intergenerational dialog and against anti-Semitism and exclusion.
