Reading and discussion with Gernot Wolfram
Haus Lebenstein On Tour – in the series: Fachfenster
Reading and discussion with Gernot Wolfram, Professor of Media and Cultural Management at Macromedia University Berlin
“Culture combat zone – how populists seduce us”
Populist movements are increasingly resorting to pop culture strategies to influence social sentiment and undermine democratic discourse. Wolfram shows how targeted cultural codes – whether in music, film or games – cleverly camouflage political messages and thus shape perceptions and opinions. His thesis: cultural actors have the power to effectively counter this influence through education, participation and networking. In Gronau, too, the aim is to strengthen cultural venues as spaces for encounters, reflection and democratic education. With its focus on pop, the rock’n’popmuseum offers an ideal resonance space for these topics. An evening that effectively combines culture, science and lived practice on site.
