Spring festival and Sunday shopping in Epe

27. April um 13:00 - 18:00

Frühlingsfest in Epe - das Bild zeigt Besucher in der geschmückten Merschstraße

On Sunday, April 27, 2025, the traditional spring festival will take place in the village center of Eper under the motto “Garden”. From 12 noon to 6 p.m., visitors can look forward to a varied programme organized in collaboration with Sparkasse Westmünsterland, the Eper advertising association, local clubs and businesses. The stage program has also been finalized and promises a musical and entertaining all-round event for young and old.

The brass band LaPaka from Epe will kick things off on April 27 at 12 noon. They will play on the church square until 2 pm and invite you to enjoy themselves. This will be followed by the funny gardeners, who will provide plenty of fun on stage during the conversion time. In keeping with the Gronau Jazz Festival, which once again attracts thousands of visitors to Gronau directly after the Epe Spring Festival, Sparkasse Westmünsterland presents the band TOMMY TORNADO & The CLERKS from 2:45 – 4:15 pm.

Tommy Tornado’ aka Thomas Streutgers is a unique saxophonist who has been playing reggae and jazz since his youth. Now, together with one of the most accomplished German ska and reggae bands, The Clerks from Cologne, he has released ‘Back on Track’, an album full of self-composed and (mainly) instrumental jazz reggae tunes.

The young Thomas was just 17 years old when he won the Big Boss Jazz Award in 1997. It was the beginning of a great career. In 1998, he joined Rude Rich & The High Notes and, with his innovative saxophone playing and his qualities as a songwriter, helped to make the Amsterdam band one of the top bands on the European ska and reggae scene.

Since then, Tommy Tornado has traveled the world as a touring musician, recorded for and learned a lot from many of the most important protagonists of Jamaican and international reggae, including Derrick Morgan, Alton Ellis, The Heptones, Lee Scratch Perry, Meta & The Cornerstones, Aswad, Dennis Alcapone, U Brown, Rico Rodriguez, Winston Francis, Ernest Ranglin, Western Standard Time Orchestra, Victor Rice and many others. He was and is also very busy with the swing/jazz comedy group The Busquitos.

“Lovers of reggae and jazz should not miss out on this and visit the spring festival!”, Sabine Thünenkötter (Artistic Director Jazzfest Gronau) is certain.

Finally, the team from Blumenland Schmitz will be on stage from 16:45 to provide tips and tricks on summer planting for patios and balconies. “We are looking forward to filling the center of Eper with life once again and to spending a great day together with the residents and visitors under the motto garden and in the spirit of the jazz festival,” say Elke Rinke and Luana Dörken from the city and tourism marketing team.
