Cycling 2025: Cycling through the homeland on a bike

For years, the “Anradeln” cycling event on Whit Monday has been a fixed and popular part of the regional calendar of events. What once began as a circular tour between Heek and its districts of Nienborg and Ahle has now developed into an inter-municipal project involving the municipalities of Heek, Metelen, Schöppingen, Legden and the towns of Gronau and Ahaus. This year, the town of Gronau is the official partner of the municipality of Heek.

On Whit Monday, 9 June 2025, the 55.7-kilometre cycle tour from 11:00 to 18:00 invites you to discover the beauty of the region by bike. The route runs via the junction system and can be shortened individually at any time – so there is something for every fitness level and every schedule.

The varied route leads via Epe along the River Dinkel to the town of Gronau with a detour into the Netherlands. The route continues through the Hündfelder Moor and the Eper-Graeser Venn, past the Lasterfeld airfield, via Ahle back to Heek. From Heek, the route continues to Nienborg and then back towards Epe/Gronau.

Along the way, numerous catering establishments with special offers invite you to linger. Cyclists can collect stamps at various stations along the route, which entitle them to take part in a prize draw. This year, there are vouchers with a total value of €300 to be won.

The route can be cycled in both directions and has no fixed start or end point – anyone can join the tour where it suits them best. Special highlights await participants in Gronau and Epe: The “Sprungbrett” outdoor pool café in Gronau’s town park and the “Löwenherz” in the town center are also part of the route, as are other hospitable businesses. At the Lasterfeld airfield, the Modell-Flug-Club Gronau e.V. will once again present its skills and provide exciting insights into the sport of model flying.

There is also a lot to experience in Heek on Whit Monday: The German Youth and Junior Championships of the German Shepherd Dog Association will take place at the Dinkelstadion. On the third and final day of the championship, interested parties can experience the exciting hobby up close. A varied program and refreshments will be provided.

To mark German Mill Day, the historic grain water mill in Nienborg opens its doors once again, of course, and the Hohe Haus on the Ringburg grounds welcomes cyclists to the historic gardens.
